Radio Mewat, a community radio initiative, has become a strong platform for local people to voice their issues and assert their identity. Its run and managed entirely by the Mewat community in one of the most backward districts of Haryana. Even today the literacy rate among women is only 34% and health and other facilities are minimal and inadequate. The radio station serves as a bridge between the administration and the community and creates innumerable opportunities for the two stakeholders. Thematic Focus: Radio Mewat has a participatory system for democratization of information on all aspects of economic and social development and it takes a rights based approach to development.
